About

geology Welcome to Rock-Head Sciences! I’ve been told for years that all I have are rocks in my head, so I thought I’d start a blog to shake some of them out and clear my thoughts as I journey onward in this interesting, yet hectic life in the world of geology and science in general.  Being a manager and now Bureau Chief of several scientists and drillers, and enough education to crystallize anyone’s head, I like to step outside of my current working environment and push myself to learn…constantly.  The research never ends.  Day and night, I thrive on finding the latest developments.  Not only in science, but also in leadership.  We can have all the science knowledge available, but without excellent leadership, it’ll go nowhere.  So, with both in mind, I will share my experience and finds with you and feel free to share yours as well.  Also, if you have any questions or are just starting out in your career and want advice, let me know!

Here is how I obtained all the rocks in my head:

  • B.S. Geology
  • M.S. Environmental Engineering Sciences
  • Professional Geologist
  • 15 years geology experience
  • 25 years management experience (geology and healthcare industries)

Here are my life’s passion:

  • My family
  • Hydrogeology/geology
  • Sustainability/green technology/adaptive management
  • Protection of water supplies and natural systems
  • Progressive leadership/management
  • Successful employees
  • Mentorship
  • Writing
  • Art

Through this blog, I will share updates on geology and other sciences, careers of many talented geoscientists, projects, management techniques and stories of my travel and field experiences.

Thank you for stopping by my blog! —-Sandie Will

    Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am a student at the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research (IPMZ) University of Zurich. As part of my Master’s thesis, I am conducting a survey on how climate change bloggers’ perceive themselves and their role in the climate change debate.

If you blog about climate change, I would like to ask you to participate in my survey. Your contribution will help us to gain valuable insights into the field of climate change blogging.

    Link to the survey: http://ww2.unipark.de/uc/landolt_Universit__t_Z__rich/64cf/

The questionnaire will take about 7 minutes to fill out.
There are no right or wrong answers. I am interested in your personal opinion.
The study does not serve any commercial purpose. The data provided is solely for the purpose of scientific analysis and is evaluated anonymously.
The questionnaire can be filled out in English and German.
Please feel free to contact me if there are further questions or comments.

Do you attend the GSA Conferences? I am proposing a session about “Exploring ART in e(ART)h science.” If so and you would like to be involved, please send a reply email.

Hi Michael – thank you for writing me. I don’t plan on being at the GSA Conference, so, unfortunately, I won’t be able to participate. I’ll let another scientist know about it though and will give her your email if she’s interested. Best of luck! Sandie
